yuletide 2018
Sep. 16th, 2018 10:24 amHi! I'm
pyrophane and first of all, thank you so much for participating! I’ll love your fic no matter what, so please don’t feel pressured ❤️ I’ve written some prompts, but by no means do you have to include all or any of them -- so long as you steer clear of my DNWs, if you have a particular idea you’re burning to write, go for it! Feel free to spin something entirely out of my likes list and disregard the prompts as well.
You can find me elsewhere on twitter @ennezahard or @juncheolsoo for RPF and on tumblr @delineative. If you’re really stuck, my previous Yuletide letters can be found in this tag -- if the prompts for any of those fandoms are striking a chord, I’d be happy to receive fic for them instead. The most important thing is that you have fun writing the rare fandoms we both adore!

My tag for Mayu is here, assorted thoughts about a Mayu-lives AU can be found here.
How to consume: English translations can be purchased on Amazon here, epubs/pdfs can also be easily obtained online.
Another repeat request! Minoo/Ida is my rarepair otp and I like how they mirror one another, except that Minoo actively tries to be (or be seen as) a good person, while Ida tends to prioritise her own interests over her conscience. But most importantly, both girls are ultimately heroic despite their struggles with motive and action! Some specific prompts:

I'm also very much into magical realism-type AUs where they're still idols but some of them also have superpowers/can turn into animals/are androids/are dealing with the apocalypse, etc.
How to consume: English subs for Idol Producer can be found here, and subbed Yuehua-specific content can be found here.
The Yuehua team bond is really charming to me and I'd love to see anything diving into the nuances of that! I like the constant undermining of Zhengting's authority as a leader by the other members, and how they always gravitate towards each other to the point of good-natured cliqueishness. I've seen staff accounts about the Yuehuas visiting each other after practice just to spend more time with each other, which is super cute! Feel free to focus on any Yuehua or combination of Yuehuas in reading these prompts, and also feel free to use any relevant prompts from the Nine Percent section of this letter.
How to consume: should be available on any manga reading site, I found it here.
A repeat request! If you’re writing Mayu fic, you can't go wrong -- honestly, you could just write out Mayu's internal monologue as she watches paint dry or something and I'd be over the moon, I'm guaranteed to love anything in which Mayu Does Things. Mayu’s emotional maturity, levelheadedness, care for her friends, social charisma, classic Summer A self-absorption, sweetness, and cheerful passive-aggressiveness are what make her my favourite 7 Seeds character out of a cast I absolutely adore.
Summer A gen is my lifeblood, and I’d love slightly off-key slice-of-life fic exploring Mayu’s childhood/middle-school years within Summer A -- what kind of group traditions do they have? Do they try to adopt any horrifically misinterpreted civilian customs on Mayu's prompting? What does her daily routine look like? How has she decorated her dorm room, and who does she room with? Who shares her classes? Who does she view as rivals? Where does she get her supply of cute hair accessories???
I’d also love an AU where Mayu lives and becomes the Summer A leader -- what changes, and what doesn’t? Does she still clash with the other teams? How do the other Summer A members feel about her leadership? Who are her favourite civilians? There’s a whole range of possibilities in diverging from canon, and I’d love to see your take on it!
Here are some potential Mayu dynamics I particularly love -- all optional, just here if you’d like more prompts:

Here are some potential Mayu dynamics I particularly love -- all optional, just here if you’d like more prompts:
- Mayu/Ryo -- even though they didn't really interact in canon I'm very interested in the way Ryo’s fake bad boy lifestyle potentially provides an excellent foil for Mayu. Canon-wise, did Mayu hang around on the peripheries of Ryo and Ango’s dramatic rivalry and make fun of them with Nijiko? Did she ever work with, compete against, tutor, or be tutored by Ryo? In a Mayu-lives AU, tell me about her exile roadtrip with Ryo -- how the two people least interested in exploring the new world, having prioritised the safety of their friends above all else, begin to turn their focus outwards and reluctantly find beauty in this utterly foreign place. A friend put it as ‘we are trying to preserve this fading world even though in doing so we’ve alienated every other person we wanted to do it for, but this singular other person thinks we’re on the right track, so we can keep going for another day’ -- anything with that kind of 'us against the world’ vibe would be amazing!
- Mayu/Ayu -- as Koruri’s best friend, Mayu must be on top of all the Summer A gossip, and so surely she must have known about the bullying Ayu was going through, especially as they share soil class. Mayu’s also well-respected by her peers, so why didn’t she put a stop to it? Did she try to rationalise her inaction the way Ayu did ('it would be condescending if I tried to help her, she’s strong enough to handle it herself’)? Was there a period, when the bullying had just begun, where Ayu thought that Mayu would step in soon? For all Mayu’s interpersonal expertise, Ayu seems to be the one situation she doesn’t know how to deal with, and I’d love to see something exploring that. In a Mayu-lives AU, how does that friction and misery escalate? Does Mayu seek Ayu out, or does she try to pretend everything is fine between them?
- Mayu/Koruri -- the sweetest friendship (plus Nobara, if you like)! Would love any sort of slice-of-life -- Mayu: Girl Detective’s investigations into the mysterious Saucer-Eyed Club activities, helping each other study for exams, roommate hijinks. In a Mayu-lives AU, tell me about Mayu and Koruri clashing over Koruri growing closer to the other teams, and how the new world strains their relationship?
- Mayu/Nijiko -- I'd love to see Mayu and Nijiko being unexpectedly good friends and classmates, particularly since they share soil class! Maybe a field trip, or studying in the library together, or Mayu waterproofing an extra track jacket for Nijiko? In a Mayu-lives AU, what causes them to fall out, and why doesn't Nijiko go into exile with Mayu and Ryo given her closeness to both?

Another repeat request! Minoo/Ida is my rarepair otp and I like how they mirror one another, except that Minoo actively tries to be (or be seen as) a good person, while Ida tends to prioritise her own interests over her conscience. But most importantly, both girls are ultimately heroic despite their struggles with motive and action! Some specific prompts:
- Any sort of missing-scene fic -- reluctantly spending time together, shying away from what they see of themselves reflected in the other, making spur-of-the-moment overtures that may or may not be successful, having to work together, being unsettled by but ultimately drawn to one another. I think a lot about how they were only able to truly make that connection right before the end, so I'd just really like to see something that recognises that they're the ones who are most able to understand each other, especially because they don't want to.
- A sidequest sent by the Book of Patterns/a magical dream/something one of the Circle happened upon during research that requires both Minoo and Ida's skillsets to complete -- seriously, just give me the flimsiest justification for making them spend time together in isolation. Maybe a roadtrip? All of the slow burn, gradually opening up to each other, tentative companionship and loyalty despite disliking one another, accidentally settling into routines or familiarity, working surprisingly well with each other (destroying the fragile connection they've forged once they return to the others?). Feel free to mess around with the timeline to facilitate this!
- Really interested in how their family situations shape their personalities -- Minoo’s adopted her family’s moral compass and overachiever tendencies, while Ida’s internalised her family’s coldness and viciousness. Both of them struggle with familial expectation and the resulting slew of hurt or insecurities -- do they ever manage to set the need to preserve their image aside and have a proper conversation about it?
- Something that delves more into the bodyswap arc in Fire. AUs where Minoo also swapped into Ida are welcome! How do they deal with literally wearing the other's skin and having to confront the severe case of impostor syndrome the other is facing? I love all kinds of selfcest and bodysharing tropes.
- Other canon divergences -- AUs where Elias, Rebecka, Ida, Viktor etc live are welcome! I particularly like the idea of an AU where Ida is alive during The Key and comes closest to bringing Minoo back from Walter/the guardians.
- Also more than happy for you to add any of the other characters, nominated or not, into the mix to play Minoo and Ida off of -- my favourite option is Clara (the vicious streak she shares with Ida would probably simultaneously draw them towards each other and drive up distrust between them, which would be really cool to see play out), and I'm also really interested in some kind of tensely semiplatonic Minoo/Viktor/Ida thing rooted in mutual dislike and grudging trust, as well as Minoo/Linnea/Ida clashing worldviews. I just love Circle poly in general! In terms of background ships, you can't go wrong with Vanessa/Linnea and Felix/happiness; I'm also a fan of Minoo/Clara, Ida/Clara and Minoo/Rebecka.
- I'd prefer it if the main cause of conflict/tension between Minoo and Ida was not their shared romantic interest in Gustaf. I like Gustaf but am not very attached to him, so if you don't want to write him at all, that's cool. For these three, I'd rather not receive poly.
How to consume: the music video can be found here.
I've written this prompt so that you don't need to be familiar with NCT Dream as I'm not looking for straight-up RPF, but for reference:
- Mark: boy with black hair, at 0:19
- Renjun: boy with fanny pack, at 1:49
- Jeno: boy wearing beret, at 2:57
- Donghyuck: boy watching rockets, at 0:45
- Jaemin: boy wearing overalls, at 1:33
- Chenle: boy with green hair, at 0:39
- Jisung: boy wearing striped shirt and yellow pants, at 1:26
- I'm the world's biggest sucker for roadtrips that end at the ocean like the one in this MV, so I'd love to see that explored further! Why are they on this roadtrip -- is it the end of the world, are they running from something (mundane or fantastical), are they looking for something, is it a sort of last hurrah of adolescent friendship before they have to part ways as they move on and grow up? What are they doing at the ocean?
- The dream sequence at 1:44 with Mark and Renjun -- are they dreamsharing, Inception-style? Are they (or any of the others) maybe in a lotus eater dream, and if so, whose dream is it? You could even spin a kind of mentorship out of it... is Renjun dancing for Mark his way of saying goodbye?
- Thinking about the hourglass motif, maybe the events of the MV are a time loop, and at the end after the fireworks and everyone falling asleep one of them wakes up again to relive this single beautiful day with all of their friends? What's wrong with reality/the waking world (something related to Mark, perhaps)?
- At 1:37 it looks like Jaemin has telekinetic powers, which could be a fun thing to play around with! There's also Chenle looking at the hourglass at 1:40 (time control powers?)… maybe fic about superpowered teens trying to build real friendships in a world they feel alienated from?
- What's up with the rockets? Are they literal -- is this a sci-fi setting, prelude to a space opera? Or are they just another symbol of a destabilised reality?
- Some extra inspiration: these super atmospheric photos of Jeno and Renjun; more team roadtrip vibes.
- From the group, my favourite ships are Jaemin/Renjun, Renjun/Mark, any 00z ship, and any combination of 00z/Mark, but I'm happy to read any gen or ship combination for this request!

General
I love 'canon-compliant'/idolverse fics! Give me all of the detail about the difference between onstage and offstage personas, the industry, their schedules, comeback stress, backstage shenanigans, friendships with other idols, angsty pining, repression of feelings set against showy skinship in front of the camera... I only ask that you don't include homophobia (internalised or otherwise) as a plot point, thank you!I'm also very much into magical realism-type AUs where they're still idols but some of them also have superpowers/can turn into animals/are androids/are dealing with the apocalypse, etc.
- NSFW: I love idolverse breathplay fic especially! Also things like messy, rushed backstage hookups where they have to be quiet to avoid being caught (but are also getting off on the possibility of being caught…).
- Pre-Idol Producer fic about the formation of the team -- they've mentioned that they weren't all that close prior to going through the pressure cooker of Idol Producer together, so what was the team dynamic like back when they were trainees new to the company? How did that dynamic change as more members arrived, as Zhengting and Justin left for Produce 101 in Korea, as they came back?
- During the show -- how did they get closer? What was it like for the lower-ranked Yuehuas looking at Zhengting/Justin/Chengcheng's almost ironclad positions in the top 9, and vice versa? The Yuehuas were overall one of the most popular companies on the show and didn't lose any trainees until the last round of pre-finals eliminations, so how did that impact how they acted around each other and around the others?
- Feel free to spin off any of the extra content or Xinfan segments, or make up your own. I'd love to see your take on what happens away from the cameras! What shifts in the relationship dynamics, both within Yuehua and with the other trainees?
- Canon divergence AU where the Yuehuas are literally soulbonded -- what does that entail? Hearing thoughts, sharing feelings? Was it artificially induced, and if so, is it weird or do any of them resent it for any reason (lack of privacy or individual identity, lack of initial closeness with the others, etc)? Maybe it's the soulbond that causes them to grow closer, rather than the other way around? How do they handle sharing headspace with so many colourful personalities?
- I'd prefer something gen-focused, but if you do choose to include ships, I like combinations of Zhengting/Justin/Chengcheng and Justin/Chengcheng/Zeren.
How to consume: English subs for Idol Producer can be found here, and Nine Percent's reality show from just after debut can be found here.
I've been following Nine Percent since Idol Producer, and I have a huge soft spot for groups that were formed on idol survival shows and the unusual team dynamics that result. I'd love to see anything that explores that specific combo of team bonds/friendship/admiration/resentment/surprising lack of resentment/longing/coworker-ness(?)/love(???), especially since there are quite a few companies in the mix (looking at the Yuehua clique in particular). Ambiguous, difficult-to-define relationships are my favourite thing when it comes to RPF!
Zhengting was my onepick during the show, so I've requested him as I'm interested in his dynamic with every member! I'm endeared by his tendency to slingshot between shy/warmhearted/sensitive and shameless/overdramatic/intense, and his simultaneous awareness of how to play to the camera and nonchalance about just saying whatever the fuck he feels like. Anything that dives into that incongruity would be really amazing!

- Ships-wise, I'm into pretty much any combination of the members, so follow your heart! I'm probably most fond of combinations of Zhengting/Xukun/Yanjun and Yuehualine, but I can be sold on anything. Feel free also to include any other Idol Producer trainees or idols from the same company. I'm especially fond of Yuehua and Gramarie, and the intersection of Zhengting's extended social circle with Chinese kpop idols like Seventeen's Jun/NCT's Sicheng, Chenle, Renjun/Pentagon's Yanan etc.
- Zhengting/Xukun/Yanjun - I like the relationships all of them have to the concept of leadership (Zhengting's caretaking of the Yuehuas vs Xukun's current leader-centre role vs Yanjun's former leadership of Trainee18) and I think that could be interesting to explore in their interpersonal dynamics... possibly even an AU where Zhengting or Yanjun is 9%'s leader instead of Xukun?
- Zhengting/Justin - their depth of shared history and Tom-and-Jerry exasperation/fondness routine is what I'd love to see more of; I personally think that Justin is Zhengting's favourite no matter how much he complains about him.
- Zhengting/Chengcheng - I love their leader/second-in-command dynamic, and the reversal of authority and maturity here, especially with Chengcheng calling Zhengting the diminutive form of his name.
- Missing scenes/behind-the-scenes on Idol Producer. Late night convenience store trips, dorm parties, truth-or-dare escalations, fake radio shows, black market for contraband goods like sweets, anything you can think of!
- Nine Percent dorm life antics -- since iQiyi doesn't seem likely to show us some anytime soon I'd love to read about what it's like for them to cohabit outside of the high-pressure conditions of the show! How do they transition from the competition to working and living together for the near future? What's the roommate situation like? Feel free to take this in a lighthearted or angsty direction -- I don't doubt they all genuinely like each other but I'm sure there are others who didn't make the final team that they like more, so how do they all navigate that implicit understanding that maybe they weren't all of each other's ideal picks?
- Post-disbandment -- all the team relationships Nine Percent are building come with an inherent expiry date attached because of the short-term contract, so what happens to those bonds once they aren't obliged to see each other every day? Who makes the effort to keep in touch? Who doesn't, and regrets it (who doesn't, and doesn't regret it)? A post-disbandment setting seems ripe for complicated pining and the realisation of feelings that might have been repressed during Nine Percent promotions… after all, it's much easier to avoid someone when you don't have any shared or overlapping schedules anymore...
Again, these are all just suggestions – use them or leave them as you wish! Thank you so much, and see you on the other side!
